The Fundamentals of the Traditional Swing

The purpose of the Tradition Swing is to incorporate an additional lever to the swing. This is accomplished by the proper position of the hands on the golf club which will allow the wrists to roll on the backswing and to roll back on impact. This will serve the purpose of increasing the club head speed through the ball at impact.

Steps in sequence to the Traditional Swing:

1) you start by dragging the club back away from the ball, which means that the club head will lag behind the shaft and although not visible, the shaft will have a bow in it as it moves before the club head moves.

2) your wrists will then start to roll and this opens up the club face.

3)  somewhere about the middle of the backswing both your wrists bend and the club head is beginning to past the centerline of the shaft, in the opposite direction, again causing a bow in the shaft ,this action stores up kinetic energy in the shaft.

4)  at the top of the backswing, the club head is below the center line of the shaft, your wrists are fully cocked, and now the timing of the sequential moves are critical. The toe of the club head will be pointing straight down.

5)  the downswing begins without any movement of your hands or arms.

A)  your knees and feet move first.

B)  then your hips move.

C)  this action brings your arms and club down to almost hip high, causing the club head to lag behind, and again storing kinetic energy in the shaft.

D)  now the with the beginning of the turn with your shoulders, the act of dropping the club in takes place, of setting the swing arc to be through the center of the ball, not inside out, nor outside in.

E)  as your shoulders begin to rotate more, along with you swinging your arms, your wrists begin to un-cock, causing an acceleration of the lagging club head, increasing the amount of kinetic energy being stored in the shaft

F)  just prior to impact, your back side is allowed to collapse, your wrists have rolled back to square up the club face, and your wrists are totally un cocked, this now throws the club head down and through the ball, releasing all the kinetic energy stored in the shaft, and the club head moves ahead of the centerline of the shaft, causing the shaft to bow in the opposite direction.

G)  the follow through has no real effect on the shot, but is the act of letting your body to continue the swing.

However,  PSM , proper sequential motion is an absolute must with this swing to insure the head is square at impact and to have the correct swing path.
